Digging In The Crates: January DJ Chart

A selection of tracks that just hit right on that warm summer vibe—some fun, some deep, all with their own vibe. From floor-fillers to Balearic slow burners, compilations to singles and EPs. Let’s go!

1. Giovanni Damico - Tropica (feat. Martina)

Kicking things off with this absolute bomb of an italo track by Giovanni Damico. Super fun and vibrant track with cool solos and well placed elements calling you onto the floor! The compilation has some nice moments on it but this track is the stand out.

2. Das Komplex - Pudding

Nice little groover here. A bit balaeric and low slung. It takes a while to get going but I guess that’s part of why its balaeric–it’s not in a hurry. It’s an invitation for you to do the same in a world that’s moving too fast. Slow down and enjoy the pudding.

3. System Olympia - Falling In Love (Ft. P NUT)

The bandcamp blurb for System Olympia reads “Night rides in my Mercedes Benz”

So good. Low slung 80s club vibe. Theres a real nostalgic romance that wafts through the air when you play System Olympia that gets you doing that hand slightly raised in the air gyrating back and forth type funk style move.

4. Apiento & Co. - Dish

This track has become iconic to me. Apiento has become an obsession. I’ve played it in so many different circumstances and it always bangs almost unexpectedly every damn time! I got yews and cheers on the dancefloor in one venue. In another I had the ‘common man’ gyrating to that ‘dish’ sauce. Its refreshingly different and just gets you feeling all loose. The voice is kinda funny and you start repeating it in waking life–it just pops up … “dishh dishhhhhhh ish ish ish”

5. Harks & Mudd - Susta (Ron Trent Remixes)

Ront Trent vocal jammer. All the trade marks of the man. Those boogie chord stabs and those ever present soft pads reeling you further into the floor and when that vocal hits the hook with the message you want to hear on the floor “pretend that we are lovers only for tonight.”

6. Ciao Italia (Generazioni Underground)

Whole comp is sick. Heaps of favourites and classic italo sounds and artists on here. Great value for money if your new to italo house.

7. East Coast Love Affair - Musica Para Todos

It’s balaeric, bubbly and perfectly orchestrated. This blurb had me dreaming:

Drawn upon our mutual loves of house music, dub and weirdo dance music by the likes of African Head Charge, Larry Heard and Sun Ra. We also added sprinkles of influence from other oddball tracks that make up our more interesting sets. We spent hours just pulling and listening to records from all our collections and talking about music before hitting the studio. What resulted from the session is a beautiful and exciting blend of everyone’s taste – dreamy, minimal, almost techno synthscapes, New York oddball house that sounds like some lost Sleeping Bag test press to almost Música Popular Brasileira.

8. Olefonken - Ubuntu Tutu

Olefonken just a casual synchronised swimmer from Oslo, Norway producing some of the best sun-drenched brilliance you’ll hear. Play this near water at 3pm on a Sunday and just slip into that chilled aperitif that seems to just keep getting more freshing with each sip.

9. Milord - Party Line

Super fun party jam released on Periodica records from Italy. This list is starting to make summer sense hey? This one is for after the sun goes down.

10. Earthboogie - The E.B. THeme

Let the plot thicken with this one. It’s a 3 track EP and each track has its place. Leng Records known for quality without restriction. It’s interesting dance music. Funky and well put together.
