Digging In The Crates: July DJ Chart

We’re back, baby! After a few months I’ve got a fresh stack of Bandcamp finds for yall. Balearic, werido house, proto, electro, classic, latin influences. Right here! As always try support the artists where you can and share the love friends! dig in less goo!

1. Cal-C - Bath Bomb EP

San Fransisco outfit Bar Part Time is now a label and they’ve kicked off with this Balearic ‘Bath Bomb’ ep. Seriously bangin beach side vibe on this one. Modern, a touch clubby and just brilliant. I’ve been playing all the tracks across my gigs. My favorite track is probably ‘Wine 69’. People shouldn’t say things like “its so vibey” because it makes you sound like u have no clue but really that is exactly what this is – its so vibey. Reeeowwwwwww.

2. Walk On (Leo Zero Edit)

Far as free edits go. This is A grade. I was recently having a dig at Brisbane local record shop Monster Robot Party and i came across this edits 12″ on Popular Peoples Front which wasn’t cheap but was too good to pass on. Anyway you can get the B2 for FREE here. Gosh darn good feeling on this edit of Rufus & Chaka Kahn – Stop On By.

3. Joint4Nine - From The Hood EP

Love this Colombian label Ritmo Terco. Heaps of dope releases. Edgy clubby underground weirdo house and disco. I like track 4 ‘Im From The Hood’ – type of track you can play to keep things rolling early on as the floor is just starting to gee up.

4. Stefan Ringer - Fever (Ben Hixon Remix)

Love Stefan Ringer’s stuff. Hailing from Atlanta, Georgia him and Ben Hixon are doing some really great work in the US house/deephouse scene. They have their own sound that touches on a sultry but still rough and rugged feel  with a bit of a hiphop edge to it. I’ve been playing this a lot. This track features a slick vocal and Ben’s remix has this upright bass giving it a latin vibe with a guitar stab that flows into a full blown solo later on. Spicy!!

5. Dot The T’s Ft. DeeVoeNay (Ron Basejam Remix)

Medlar + Ron Basejam (1/3 Crazy P) is a winning combo. This lil turn up electro funk type jam is wicked. Great to break up the 4×4 but keep things fun and loose. Another sexy rap-kinda vocal. Chest pump to this.

6. Drifting Clouds - Bawuypawuy

This track is just really beautiful 80s electronic vibe from Drifting Clouds. Super strong first release by Yolngu musician Terry Guyula. From the release notes – Guyula sings in his first language: Liyawulma’mirr-Djambarrpuyngu, a language of Yolngu Matha, the lyrics describe a traditional Songline of the sea, waves and currents become stronger, rough and tough in Arnhem Bay (Gupawupa).

7. AGCP - Underfunk

Secret weapon russian mig type bizness here. Modern take on a proto-house sound. AGCP arrangements are super fun they keep things interesting with a bit of weirdo vibes.

8. Gerardo Frisina - Cuiabà

Afro-cuban vibes! Super nice 110 BPM bar type vibes but I think you could extend this further. I came across this from dutch DJ S!RENE. Check out his sets. They are high energy and FUN. So this jam could work in a bar setting but also as a switch up on a D-FLOOR. Proof that perfection is in the presentation!

9. Yoko Duo (remixes)

Some major players on this remix EP. I like both of the Lake People remixes. Reminiscent of the older Bob Moses stuff. Deeper tech stuff with actual feeling. I love this vocal. Techhouse can get a bit of a bad wrap these days but it’s so broad and you just can’t discount it. Good music is good music. Keep searching and find those gems. Genre tags are just made up words to describe a feeling.

10. Anthony Nicholson feat. Charlotte Hunt & Charlotte Hunt - Sunshine (Miquifaye Original Edit)

Gotta finish this chart on something nice. A King Street classic! Beautiful chord progression. Nice long mix gorgeous vocal and lyrics that are uplifting and positive. aaaaand Piano solo! shutup and take my monayyyyy. Classic peak time US house from 2001.
