More vibes for ya tribe. This month disco edits, live albums, future classics, funky rollers.
1. Bobby Analog - BF003
More housey disco edits that you certainly didn’t ask for but dammit these ones are pretty good though so I think its worth giving a shout out to Bobby for these. I actually came across these by finding one of my favourite DJ/producer (Borrowed Identity) bandcamp fan page. He who knows a few good edits when he sees em. Check out his own sought after Home Sick edit EP for the pedigree.
2. Kevin Yost - Wanna Dance
I’ve been pretty obsessed with Kevin Yost since stumbling upon his Dawn Approaches EP released on New Jersey !i Records in 1997 and fastforward to 2024 and he’s still releasing quality deep house. Don’t you love to hear it??? That’s longevity that sits beneath the hype but is fully about it. I believe he lives in greece, obviously still producing and presumably enjoying octopus and ouzo seaside in a white lime rendered villa. That or Waynesboro, Pennsylvania like it says in his Bandcamp Bio but I have no idea what they eat, drink or do there.
3. Kelela - In The Blue Light (live from Blue Note NYC)
I played this for my partner who is a big Kelela fan and before her angelic voice even started to come in she remarked that she liked it. For me that’s enough said!! But since you’re here just listen to ‘Better’ into ‘Waitin”. Such an elite transition and this version of Waitin’ is just so perfect. Her voice is just special. Such an amazing talent that is a giant in the grass. This should be a vinyl release, Warp, get it together! While writing this I thought, wheres that Kelela Tiny desk at tho? of course >> Here. You can see that transition I’m talking about live.
4. Close Counters - Lovers Dance Academy
Aussie Jazzfunk dancemusic duo release their third album but this one feels like a homecoming. A maturing of their sound and really well rounded release that invites some of the best in Australian music, especially those hailing form Naarm (Melbourne). Super good sounding, funky and just wholesome stuff really. Definitely some of the best to come out of oz.
5. Dweles Interlude [Alex Nut Remix
EDIT REMIX business. This time spinning soul artist Dwele’s Interlude (from Common’s Let Love album) into a deep house stepper.
6. Chaos In The CBD - Fabric
I slept on this mix for a while but it’s full of all the stuff I love. Jazzy underground house, tribal deep house, early house, extended percussive tech groovers and of course tracks featuring that rainforest bird sound which is reminiscent of walking into a National Geographic shop circa 2000.
7. One Man's Quest - Smiling Faces "95"
Early house business on the World Building label. This is a cover of the super famous and covered Temptations song. Features a groovy dubby warehouse style mix and a Street Soul version. Heaps of good early house style records on this label.
8. Tweet - Call Me (Wilfy D Remix)
Nothing too serious here!!! This is a fun lil amapiano edit of Tweet’s ‘Call me’ by Wilfy D. I trainspotted this off JNETT’s bandcamp fan page. Browsing people’s collections on bandcamp is kinda fun and you come up on all sorts of interesting finds.
9. Conga Radio - Right Beside You
Back on my Balaeric BS. Conga Radio aka Jex Opolis… Is there anything this man can’t do? absolutely, and surely?? But when it comes to 80s/90s dance music motif he’s yet to drop the ball.
10. Joi N' Juno - Samemala
This album on Canopy Records is really fun, bouncy well produced afro-latin vibes from David Baluteau aka Joi N’Juno. Multi-instrumentalist, vocalist and studio engineer and you can tell cause it sounds really good.
